Super Mario Armageddon

Here's a piece I did for the 2008 i am 8-bit retro video game art show! This was done using acrylics on masonite board. It's been a little over two years since I've used acrylics (digital painting has really spoiled me), but I was guiltedto go traditional by show curator Jon Gibson. After hitting a couple of brick walls, I think it turned out pretty okay!

Hey Gerald, great piece! I was able to attend the "i am 8-bit" show and it was awesome as expected. I also snagged a few of the Mega Man 9 posters while I was there too, so now I'll be able to proudly display your fine work in my home. Congrats again on a retrotastic job well done!

The game has a big world to explore. Princess Peach's castle has 3 floors, many rooms, courtyard, and a moat. Enough? Well of course there's more. There are much paintings resembling the 15 courses in the castle, and by jumping into these paintings, Mario can enter that course to obtain the Power Stars. The courses are well made, and there are many differences between them. There are also three Bowser courses (where in the end you fight Bowser, and the third is the last level of the game), and a few special courses to obtain secret stars. Some of the stars are also hidden in the castle, Toads have most of them.
